The National Health Authority (NHA) is the apex body driving the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the framework behind India's Digital Health Eco-System. As part of this mission, the NHA has built three core gateways for healthcare interoperability — the Health Information Exchange & Consent Manager, the Unified Health Interface (UHI), and the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX).
What is NHCX?
The National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) is a digital gateway developed by the NHA to standardise and speed up the processing of health insurance claims across the country. It connects hospitals, insurers, Third Party Administrators (TPAs) and government scheme administrators on one common, interoperable platform so that pre-authorisation, cashless approval and claim settlement no longer depend on multiple disconnected portals and paper-based workflows.

1. Payers Insurance companies, government scheme administrators (such as Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY) and TPAs who receive, process and settle claims through the NHCX gateway.

How NHCX Works With ABHA & ABDM


A claim raised on NHCX can be linked to the patient's ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) number, allowing relevant treatment and discharge records to be shared with the insurer or TPA with the patient's consent — cutting down repetitive paperwork and manual data entry at the time of claim submission.
